Preparation for Birth and Beyond
Our Philosophy is simple: we are passionate about what is important to expectant parents and aim to deliver a balance between the expectations and hopes of parents approaching birth, with the reality of common experiences.
The team has been thrilled with the introduction of the Department of Health paper "Preparation for Birth and Beyond", which recognises that a good course structure is one that will "help and inspire parents to learn and acquire new skills and make changes". Therefore all of our course structures support the six themes identified in Preparation for Birth and Beyond. They are:
• Our Developing Baby
• Changes for me and us
• Giving birth and meeting our baby
• Caring for our baby
• Our health and well-being
• People who are there for us
Birth and Baby Reality was founded by a small group of Warwickshire based university trained antenatal teachers. The company was set up to deliver independent antenatal education reaching out to all expectant mums and / or couples in Warwickshire. Birth and Baby Reality have always believed that it is vital to support parents with information that is relevant to their stage in the pregnancy, and therefore offer Early Pregnancy Classes free of charge to all local mums.
Our carefully selected team of educators and other health professionals are regularly assessed, and are required to keep knowledge up to date through continual professional development. Some of our educators have gained additional skills and qualifications to enhance their class delivery such as Birth Companion and Diversity training, as well as studying the Solihull Approach for Antenatal Education. All educators have been approved by the Federation of Antenatal Teachers (FEDANT) and work dynamically and proactively within our local maternity community, building strong relationships with local midwives, and ensuring their knowledge is up to date and in line with local practise.
We want you to be informed and to feel confident during your pregnancy, labour birth and early parenthood. Whilst a majority of our clients go on to enjoy active births using the techniques they learn in our classes, those that end up with a more medical approach report that they were well prepared through our discussion and class activities, and felt informed throughout. Our weekly coffee mornings ensure that parents can continue to access our social support network long after their formal courses have ended, and well into their new journeys as parents.
